MORE than 7200 properties in Logan are without power, according to Energex.
The suburbs most affected are Marsden, Eagleby and Holmview.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned at 5.20pm severe thunderstorms were moving towards the east.
They were forecast to affect Beaudesert, Cleveland and Beenleigh by 5.50pm, and Moreton Bay and islands by 6.20pm.
"Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds are likely," BOM said.
UPDATE 4.50pm
SEVERE storms are expected to reach Cleveland by 5.30pm, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
In a warning issued at 4.25pm, BOM said severe storms were also forecast to affect Logan city, Ipswich, and Beenleigh by 5pm.
The southern waters of Moreton Bay were expected to be affected by 5.30pm.
Damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were likely.
About 1500 properties were without power in the Scenic Rim and about 1300 in Logan.
About 750 properties in Logan Reserve were affected.
UPDATE 4pm
MORE than 1000 properties in the Scenic Rim are without power due to storm damage.
Energex is reporting 1001 outages, including 689 at Gleneagle.
In Logan, 526 properties are without power in the Cedar Vale and Woodhill area.

SEVERE thunderstorms are forecast to affect Boonah, Beaudesert and Gatton by 4.05pm, according to a warning issued at 3.30pm.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned that damaging, locally destructive winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones were likely.
UPDATE 3pm
GIANT hail, destructive winds and intense rain are forecast for Kooralbyn, Laidley and Rosewood by 3.25pm and Beaudesert, Ipswich and Gatton by 3.55pm.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning about very dangerous thunderstorms detected on the weather radar at 2.55pm.
Other severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Lake Samsonvale, Dayboro, Kincora and Mount Nebo.
They are forecast to affect Pittsworth, Fernvale and Samford by 3.30pm and Strathpine, the area south of Toowoomba and the area southwest of Toowoomba by 4pm.
BOM warned damaging, heavy rainfall that might may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones was likely.
Mulgowie had recorded 62 millimetres in 30 minutes.

DAMAGING wind, large hail and heavy rain has been forecast for this afternoon and evening.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning saying the south-east quarter of the state could be affected.
The warning said severe thunderstorms were expected to become more extensive on Friday afternoon and evening.
"Currently, the primary risks are damaging wind gusts and large hail, however this will transition to heavy rain later this afternoon and evening," BOM said.
"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours."
Beaudesert, Jimboomba, Warwick, Toowoomba, Dalby, Roma, Ipswich, Kingaroy, Gatton, Laidley, Lowood and Nanango could be affected.
The next warning is due by 4.30pm.
