Rain couldn't dampen the spirits of 12,000 Kylie Minogue fans who flocked to Sirromet winery on March 17 for her final concert in her international Golden tour.
Despite the rain turning day on the green into a night on the brown, the night proved to be a golden and long remembered event.
With the rainy conditions, a day on the green ran an efficient bus shuttle service from the Capalaba bus interchange bringing large numbers to and from the venue, instead of parking. Only four wheel drive vehicles were allowed to park on site.
Kylie delighted her fans with five costume changes, impressing with a full black leather outfit (complete with motorbikes on stage), white pant suit and gold lame dress for her final numbers. Known for her stage show spectaculars, Minogue didn't disappoint with a laser light show and even an explosion of confetti blasting into the crowd.
She interspersed her newer numbers with crowd favourites with some lengthy locomotion trains heading down a few muddy conga lines towards the finish.
Kylie embraced the performance opportunity telling concert goers that they looked gorgeous soaking wet. She also invited four year old Lola onto stage, after spotting her sign that she 'may have been little, but she was her biggest fan'. She also performed with her support act Jake Shears from New Orleans.
Lisa Kaniyur of Wellington Point said she and her four friends went well prepared with ponchos and gum boots.
"The rain didn't dampen our spirits. It was like Glastonbury without the tents. To me, it added another element of fun and made it truly memorable. Kylie was absolutely amazing. She put on a fantastic show with a great mixture of her old and new hits. We had a wonderful sing along. We had prepaid tickets for the buses to and from Capalaba and had no problems getting there or back," Ms Kaniyur said.
"We felt despite the tremendous rain and the sell out show with thousands of people the event organisers and staff did an awesome job."
Now able to facilitate the larger stage show, day on the green's Michael Newton said there were further surprises instore for the Elton John concerts being held at Mount Cotton in January 2020.
