MICHELLE Wright of Thornlands has been named Queensland's top business broker at the Real Estate Institute of Queensland Awards for Excellence.
The gala event, held in Brisbane on Sunday, March 17, brought 500 of the state's top real estate professionals together to celebrate industry successes.
Ms Wright, owner of Complete Business Brokers, claimed the title of Business Broker of the Year despite being up against brokers from some of Queensland's largest firms.
She was also the first woman to take out the prize, and said she was thrilled to be leading the way for others in the industry.
"This is typically a male-dominated industry so it's a really proud moment for me to have won the award," she said.
A broker of five years and Chair of the REIQ Business Brokers Chapter Committee, Ms Wright she loved the diversity the job offered.
"I've sold cafes, retail, town planning (and) earth moving businesses," she said.
"It's a really interesting role (because) I get to help people transition in and out of business.
"I love getting out and meeting people and listening to their stories."
Ms Wright said business sales typically took around six to 12 months, so brokers and clients could form stronger bonds.
She said the key to being a successful business broker was communication.
"There are so many more things to consider when you're buying a business (compared to a home so) being transparent and offering people all the information they need (is important)," Ms Wright said.
