Body art is one of the earliest forms of human artistic expression.
There is evidence of tattooing, scarring, piercing, make-up, body paint and clothing being used in ancient cultures to signify status, beliefs, and significant events.
Today we continue to decorate our bodies to express individuality, convey personal narratives, and make statements about our beliefs.
Adorned Narratives, a new exhibition at Redland Art Gallery, Capalaba, brings together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds who use bodies as a canvas to creatively express narratives.
The art forms featured in Adorned Narratives span contemporary tattoos, fashion, henna art, and adornment.
Through their chosen medium, each artist explores body decoration as a way to tell and share stories.
Adorned Narratives is curated by Danielle Harvey.
Visit Adorned Narratives at Redland Art Gallery, Capalaba until Tuesday May 7.
