LOCAL primary and high school students have taken part in workshops to help shape a new local development.
Last week two workshops were hosted by CoDesign Studio and Fiteni Homes, with 72 students from six schools taking part.
The workshops formed part of Fiteni Homes' community consultation process for new Victoria Point development Woodbury.
Woodbury will be located on the north side of Double Jump Road on 80 hectares of land within the Victoria Point Local Development Area.
The proposed development includes parks and recreational areas, convenience centres and bushland, as well as road upgrades.
The workshops were held last Wednesday and Friday, where they went through creative design processes with professional landscape architects and urban designers.
Students worked in groups to research, design, create, review and discuss a physical model, taking into account client briefs and environmental factors.
A judging panel headed by urban designer Mark Fuller examined the students' designs.
Ideas ranged from adventure parks and water play spaces through to more light touch and environmentally responsive outcomes such as community gardens and nature play areas.
The panel awarded best design outcome to Victoria Point High School.
"The creativity involved in all stages of the workshop and the willingness to test and innovate ideas meant this team quickly achieved high quality, thoughtful designs," Mr Fuller said.
Entertainment and opportunities for cultural exchange were also highlighted by students as important features currently missing in the Redlands area.
There was an emphasis on activities for families and youth with several groups identifying the need to provide new attractions to keep families in the Redlands.
The students' design concepts for parks and recreational areas of Woodbury will be summarised and recorded in the Woodbury Engagement Report.
Fiteni Homes will integrate the findings into the design brief during future stages of the development.
Fiteni is also running an online survey and has an interactive display set up at Victoria Point Cineplex.
