REDLAND City Council has made a draft Amity Point Shoreline Erosion Management Plan publicly available for two weeks before the document is considered by council.
Councillors agreed to release the document at the request of the Amity Point Shoreline Erosion Management Plan Community Reference Group.
Mayor Karen Williams said in a mayoral minute to council last week that significant erosion that resulted in the loss of public and private property had occurred along the Amity Point foreshore over a long time.
"As a result, Amity Point is a declared Erosion Prone Area under the Coastal Protection and Management Act 1995," Cr Williams said.
"The shoreline at Amity Point also has a history of active shoreline management and emergency protection and rehabilitation works have been carried out in response to the erosion threat over many years."
Council initiated the development of Amity Point's Shoreline Erosion Management Plan in 2015-16.
The SEMP is a non-statutory planning document prepared by local government that sets out a framework and management strategy to manage and respond to current erosion or potential future erosion problems.
Cr Williams said the development of the Amity Point SEMP - the first such plan produced by Redland City Council - was guided by a community reference group and produced by an engineering consultancy.
The reference group asked for the draft to be made available to the community before being considered by council.
Comments on the draft report will be considered before the final report is presented to council.
