A DEAD tree will be removed from by Redland City Council from Ormiston at Fig Tree Place despite efforts to save it.
A council spokesperson said the tree, planted in the 1800s, had been watched over seven years. Treatments to rejuvenate the tree's health had not worked.
A contractor was due to begin removing the tree from Monday, April 8, with the job expected to take about five days.

The tree had been already reduced in size and was fenced off so that it posed no immediate risk to the public, the spokesperson said.
"Council's decision to remove it and replace it with another tree was validated by a report from a private consulting arborist, which showed it had suffered from severe fungal disease," the spokesperson said.
Future replanting options would be negotiated with the community.
