It's our time to travel and explore
THESE days when you imagine retirement, an image of a smiling white haired couple with a caravan and four wheel drive automatically comes to mind.
It's nothing new that seniors really enjoy their caravaning and such popularity has lead to a surge in 'grey nomads' groups and organisations designed to inform, educate and link people to social groups and activities.
January this year saw the formation of the U3A Redlands Caravan, Camping and Cabin Club.
Redland locals and avid travellers Janis Clarke and Pauline More saw the need for a base point where people with caravans and campers could join together for company and friendship.
"It was suggested by many who had such vessels that it would be great to get time out with fellow members to relax together and get away from the hustle and bustle of town living," Pauline said.
Since the formation, there has been a 'tremendous' interest from U3A members.
"Nothing is compulsory, it's just about being together to relax. Afterall, U3A members are all (well mostly) retired so have time on their hands to explore."
Caravans are most popular, but the club also caters for tents and cabins for those who just want a weekend away without hitching up and towing.
