OODGEROO MP Mark Robinson has called on the state government to invest in upgrades to Cleveland-Redland Bay Road in June's state budget.
Mr Robinson and former MP Matt McEachan called for state government funding to reduce congestion for commuters, including full duplication of Cleveland-Redland Bay Road and a Gateway ramp upgrade.
Mr McEachan said the government had been inactive on the matter for years.
"Labor has had five years to do something about the road but all we've had from (Redlands MP) Kim Richards is complaining it's someone else's responsibility," Mr McEachan said.
Ms Richards launched a petition earlier this year seeking upgrade works that included widening Cleveland-Redland Bay Road beyond Magnolia Parade.
She said if Mr Robinson and Mr McEachan were interested in securing funding for the road, they should sign the petition.
"I was elected in 2017 on a commitment to fight for better local roads, whether from Brisbane or Canberra," she said.
"We have already had two upgrades to Cleveland-Redland Bay Road, but I still want more."
A $5 million upgrade at Cleveland-Redland Bay and Giles roads intersection at Redland Bay was completed last July.
Mr McEachan said Ms Richards' petition was unnecessary.
"She's in the government, there's no need for a petition, just fix it," he said.
Mr Robinson said the road was a state responsibility and he hoped pressure from the community and the opposition would lead to funding allocations for necessary upgrades.
He said the LNP had committed $45 million towards a full duplication of Cleveland-Redland Bay Road at the 2017 election.
"The Palaszczuk Labor Government must start funding major road infrastructure upgrades in the June state budget, or we will have a roads fail to match Labor's rail fail," he said.
The Queensland budget 2019-20 will be handed down on June 11.
