REDLANDS schools gathered to commemorate servicemen and women past and present at Anzac ceremonies earlier this week.
Students told stories of family members who served during wars, while RSL members and veterans were guests of honour at some ceremonies.
Bugle and bagpipe players performed and students laid wreaths.
Special guest Alan Lucas attended the Victoria Point State High School ceremony on Wednesday.
Mr Lucas, a past VPSHS student, is on leave from the Navy and will return to his posting tomorrow.
Vienna Woods State School Year 6 students each wore badges commemorating a deceased serviceman or woman.
In the days leading up to April 25, students from Faith Lutheran College, Victoria Point State High School and Cleveland District State High School visited local cemeteries to place flags on the gravesites of defence force personnel.
At the Sheldon College ceremony, some students wore medals to honour family members who had served in war.
"These were granddad's medals," prep student Nate Wilson said.
"I'm very proud of him."
RSL South Eastern District president Wendy Taylor said it was wonderful to see students taking part in the ceremony.
"To see even the younger children participating in laying wreaths was so poignant," she said.
Redlands teacher Sheena Hewlett said her kindergarten class had created a wreath from redhand prints to lay at the Coochiemudlo Island dawn service.
"The children all painted red hand prints to symbolise the red poppies in Flanders Field and the soldiers who lost their lives protecting us to create a wreath," Ms Hewlett said.
"The children also baked ANZAC cookies, read the story ANZAC ted and talked about the importance of thanking and remembering others who have contributed to our Australian way of life."
