ABOUT 5000 people watched the sun rise behind the cenotaph at Redland Bay during the Anzac Day dawn service.
The service included a recital of the poem In Flanders Fields by Redland Bay State School school captains William Opoku-Nti, Bree Caruana and Kobi Melforth and a performance of In Flanders Fields by the the Mount Cotton State School choir.
The Mount Cotton Scouts and Venturers laid wreaths on behalf of fallen soldiers and TS Diamantina cadets formed the catafalque party.
Father Ashley Warbrooke from the Star of the Sea Catholic Church opened in prayer and gave the benediction, while Redland City Band performed during the service and Leah Lever sang the Australian and New Zealand national anthems.
In his 10th year as master of ceremonies, Bayside South RSL Sub Branch committee member John Clifton spoke about Australia's involvement in the Korean War from June 25, 1950.
"Over 17,000 Australians served during the Korean War, of which 340 were killed and more than 1216 were wounded," Mr Clifton said.
"The Australian men and women who served in the Korean War must not be forgotten, any more than those who have served this country in all wars.
"It is your responsibility to inform your children and grandchildren of the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in all wars."
Mr Clifton said said the Battle of Kapyong from April 23 to 25, 1951 was costly for 3rd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, known as 3RAR.
"3RAR had lost 32 men with 59 wounded and three taken prisoner," Mr Clifton said.
"For their actions and courage, the United States awarded 3RAR with a distinguished citation."
He also spoke about the role of the Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force in Korea.
