ALEXANDRA Hills local Kylie Eustace will honour her mother as she takes part in a fundraising walk in South Bank this month.
Ms Eustace will take part in the Dementia Australia Brisbane Memory Walk and Jog on May 26, raising funds for Dementia Australia which provides support, education and resources for people living with dementia, their carers, families and friends.
This year, she will bring with her two of her sons and her nephew.
Ms Eustace's mother Freda Eustace was diagnosed with dementia six years ago when Ms Eustace was pregnant with twins.
She lived at home with Ms Eustace's father until last year, when she was moved into a care centre at Thornlands.
It was then that Ms Eustace found out about the memory walk and decided to register.
"When she went into care I saw her less and I felt I wasn't doing as much as I could for her," Ms Eustace said.
The walk helped her to feel like she was contributing to her mother's care, even when she was unable to be with her as often as she had once been.
"It gets my kids to understand there's ways to help without being with her all the time," she said.
People can take part in 2.5km, 5km or 10km events and walk, jog or run.
Registrations are now open for all Memory Walk and Jog events across Australia.
