REDLANDS Floral Art Club members will use flower arrangements to inspire a colourful facade set to transform the Ormiston rail bridge.
The artwork initiative is part of Queensland Rail's Positive pARTnership program to reduce graffiti and vandalism and foster pride in rail infrastructure.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said the QR program staff would work with the Floral Art Club and Sunshine Coast-based artist Sarah Sculley to design the bridge artwork.
"I can't wait to see what the floral art club and Sarah come up with," Mr Brown said.
The club's involvement comes more than a year after their property, including donated books, was lost when the Scout hall at Ormiston burnt down.
Club president Val Decker said members were thrilled to take part.
"This project has been a huge moral booster for the club and its members after our hall was gutted by fire in March last year," she said.
Ms Sculley said she looked forward to working with the creative group of floral artists during two workshops to combine the worlds of street art and floristry.
"I met with the RFAC whose clubhouse had been located right next to the overpass until it was destroyed in a fire," Ms Sculley said.
"After speaking with the members and seeing their amazing arrangements, we collectively decided that we would work together to create an artwork for the space."
"Together we will design and photograph some of their beautiful floral pieces and convert them into stencils and textures to decorate the Gordon Street overpass."
Ms Sculley said she hoped the project would give club members skills and confidence in stencilling and spray painting.
"I hope the mural gives the community a sense of ownership and pride in the space," she said.
Mr Brown said Ms Sculley would conduct the two workshops with club members at the end of this month before painting the designs onto the overpass in early June.
He said the Ormiston station mural had been delivered through the same Queensland Rail program.
"The Redlands has already undergone some beautiful transformations over the past few months with the recent mural installation at Ormiston station which unleashed a new leafy station front for Cleveland line rail commuters," Mr Brown said.
