Senior schooling in Queensland has changed to help give students the skills for success in work and life in the future.
Under the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) system, students can choose from a variety of subjects and courses to suit their work and study goals.
At Alexandra Hills State High School, senior students have the opportunity to select from 40 subjects across the academic and vocational pathways.
Students are also able to undertake Certificate III in Business, Fitness, Early Childhood Education and Care, and Aviation (remote pilot - visual line of sight) which will contribute to their ATAR score.
Principal Gail Armstrong said that a number of students are busy earning commercial drone piloting licences.
"This training prepares our students for employment opportunities in the growing drone industry, while enjoying the privilege of unique experiences through our industry partnerships," she said.
To complement the subjects offered at school, students have access to a large number of TAFE certificates or the freedom to participate in a school based traineeship or apprenticeship.
"Many of our students have successfully gained full time work from this experience or have been provided with real opportunities to enhance their education," Mrs Armstrong said.

Another school achievement is a Rugby League development program which has been designed to advance skills, improve fitness and student knowledge of the game of Rugby League.
"Continued partnerships with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls and the Brisbane Broncos provides our students with pathways to junior representative teams and player development squads locally and with the Broncos."
It also ensures that skills coaching is consistent from the school level right up to the NRL level.
At the elite level the school competes in the prestigious South-East Queensland wide Broncos Schoolboys Challenge competitions.
