Queensland Performing Arts Centre choir members will turn into rock stars at 7.30pm on June 11 as the transformed Rock Choir, presenting the music of the legends of rock.
Rock choir is this year's showcase offering, following the sell out success of Pop Goes the 80s in 2018. Choirmaster Timothy Sherlock leads QPAC's 200-voice and 32-voice QPAC youth choirs and gives the tunes of Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi, 10cc, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Billy Joel, The Beach Boys, The Doobie Brothers and Prince the four-part vocal harmony treatment.
The concert also features a 10-piece rock band and guest performances by the Bachelor of Musical Theatre students from Queensland Conservatorium and dancers from Merge Dance Theatre.
Choirmaster Timothy Sherlock said QPAC Choir's annual showcase concert was one of the highlights of the choir's performance calendar.
"The QPAC Choir showcase concerts go from strength to strength each year and are proving to be real crowd pleasers. In addition to being a fun event for the audience, the concert offers an opportunity for members to collaborate with other local artists, increase their live performance experience, and demonstrate the results of many months of rehearsals," Mr Sherlock said.
"We are excited this year to be presenting our first concert with our recently formed QPAC Youth Choir which consists of 32 talented singers aged 12 to 17."
Youth choir member and Year 11 Redland College student Millie Coombes said she had learned a great deal about singing since joining the choir.
"It's been better than I could have imagined. I have met new people from schools all over Brisbane," she said.
"I'm so glad I decided to try out. I've been exposed to different music from a regular choir and I get to come together and perform great songs at QPAC and see how everything works. It's a great opportunity."

Choir member Eb Smith of Birkdale said singing the music was a lot of fun.
"It's great to sing the music we used to sing when we were dancing in discos and pubs in short skirts, trying not to spill our drinks. It brings back lots of memories," she said.
"I love the harmonies of the Beatles music. It's quite gorgeous. And it's fun channeling the music of Freddie Mercury, 100 per cent. Come and rock with us."
Tickets to Rock Choir are $39 and can be booked on qpac.com.au or 136 246.
