THE Cannon sisters have shot to success at the Australasian Gymnastics and Dance Academy invitational.
The competition, held on May 11 and 12, saw a team of athletes from Premier Gymnastics travelling to Deception Bay on the Sunshine Coast.
Melissa and Tayla Cannon from Capalaba came first and second overall in their respective categories, also coming away with a collection of medals and ribbons for individual events.
Tayla, 12, competed in the Level 6 Open category, placing third in vault, second in balance beam and first in uneven bars.
In Level 4 Under 11, 10-year-old Melissa won first in both uneven bars and balance beam.
Fellow Premier Gymnastics athlete Taia Jude-Vickers from Capalaba scored fourth overall, winning a gold medal in the Level 5 Open category on vault.
Wellington Point gymnast Meg Keough came third in floor exercise in Level 4 Open.
Melissa Albiez from Premier Gymnastics said gymnasts had performed impressively at the competition.
"It was their first event of the year so all things considered, they did really well," she said.
"We use invitationals throughout the year as a lead-up to state titles in September.
"Athletes can qualify for the state competition and build up their confidence and consistency."
The gymnasts will go on to compete in the Victoria Point YMCA Invitational on June 8 and 9, state club championships in Caloundra from June 28 to July 3, and Brisbane South Regional Championships at Premier Gymnastics in August.
Other Premier Gymnastics athletes are currently competing at the national championships in Melbourne.
