There has been a few mulloway caught this week. Top spots are the seaway, Pin Bar area and Marks Rocks in the Logan River.
You need to use live bait if you want to catch a big one, although another other option that might tempt them are fresh banana prawns. There has also been a few smaller fish caught in the Brisbane River around Luggage Point, Grain Wharf and the shipping beacons. There is lots of pan size flathead around the Pin, working the sandbanks with plastics has turned up good catches.
They have also been caught at Ageston Sands, Giant's Grave and in the Broadwater around the mouth of creeks and marinas on the western foreshores. Lots of small bream around which is great fun if you are taking kids land based fishing.
There has been a few bigger fish caught on the run in tide for those fishing through the night and on most surf beaches. Prawn catches have been very slow with just a few reports from the Brisbane River. In the bay there is still a few school mackerel around but most anglers are chasing snapper on the artificial reefs. No real big ones reported but plenty of legal fish landed.
We have also seen an increase in diver whiting numbers, there has been good catches of small fish on the Pelican and Banana banks, the better quality has been north on the Amity Banks. It is still worthwhile chasing mud crabs, catches should continue for another few weeks at least. Most of the better results have come from small drains throughout Jumpinpin and its tributaries.
Offshore, there has been plenty of snapper caught but no big bruisers as yet, most around just legal up to a few kilos.
There is still tuskfish in the shallows mixed with other reef species and a few better quality pearl perch off wire weed patches in 100 plus metres of water.
On the freshwater scene, North Pine Dam is still the most productive local impoundment with big numbers of bass on the bite once you find the schools. Hinze Dam has a lot of small bass biting, Moogerah and Maroon are fishing well in the late afternoon.
