CLEVELAND teen Mason Pavic has become the youngest Queenslander to complete the Tough Mudder Classic, tackling the notoriously challenging course on his 14th birthday earlier this month.
Mason, who is a keen triathlete, completed the 16 kilometre course in Woodford on May 18 alongside about 8000 other Mudders.
"I felt like it was quite a good accomplishment and I just felt really fit and strong," he said.
"The atmosphere was pretty cool and way better than just sitting at home like I normally do on my birthday."
After watching father Stephen Pavic complete the challenge in previous years, Mason was itching to get onto the course and with the age limit for Tough Mudder in Queensland being lowered to 14 this year, he just made the cut to join his father's team, the Mud Pack, in 2019.
Mr Pavic said in the lead-up to the event he was confident Mason could hold his own on the course.
"He's definitely fit and strong enough to do it," Mr Pavic said.
Endurance was not a challenge for Mason, who recently swam 10 kilometres for charity.
"(To prepare for Tough Mudder) I just did my usual triathlon training (which involves) a lot of running, swimming, riding and some strength and core stuff," he said.
To finish the course, competitors had to tackle 25 obstacles, facing enclosed spaces, electric wire and a lot of mud.
Mason said the hanging and climbing obstacles proved a challenge for him, but he had learned to keep looking ahead.
"Keep running and don't be worried about the obstacles - just do it," he said.
"We're looking forward to doing it again next year."
