DIVERS collected three kilograms of marine debris off Amity Point, North Stradbroke Island on Saturday in support of World Oceans Day.
A Reef Check Australia spokesperson said divers had found the rubbish around the boat ramp while underwater for less than an hour.
"Unsurprisingly, the rubbish collected was largely fishing line, lures and sinkers," the spokesperson said.
"Many people are unaware that irresponsible fishing practices, including fishing equipment debris, are a major issue for our marine environments.
"The old sinkers will be send on to be smelt into lead weights so they at least won't go to waste."
The spokesperson said the team was pleasantly surprised to see the park and beach areas were already clean.
