THE Redlands' newest Ready Reading school, Redland Bay State School, is on the hunt for volunteers to help children develop their confidence and enjoyment in reading.
The Ready Reading program, which was re-launched in June 2018, sees volunteers undergo training from the Education Department before visiting schools to sit with individual students and support them as they learn to read.
Two volunteers have started reading with students at Redland Bay State School and program co-ordinator Caitlin McIlwain said students looked forward to their weekly sessions.
"It was a wonderful opportunity to build links with local community members who have a love of reading," Ms McIlwain said.
"The volunteers are trained to read one-on-one with students, helping them to develop their vocabulary, language skills and imagination."

Volunteers are trained in the Ready Reading process, which involves engaging children, supporting them throughout the reading process and questioning them on characters, ideas and illustrations.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said up to 3000 volunteers would be trained to go into schools across the state.
"We actively encourage reading every day and our Ready Reading volunteers help us promote a school community that values the benefits and enjoyment of being avid and skilled readers," Mr Brown said.
He said the state government had invested $1.5 million into the program over three years.
A Ready Reading training session will be held at Redland Bay State School from 9am to 1pm on Tuesday, June 25.
All are welcome, but attendees must hold a current blue card. Light catering will be provided.
