FOLLOWING the success of its web series Mia Morris' Diary, a Birkdale film production company has begun shooting its newest project featuring monsters, meteorites and a motley crew of scientists.
Attack of the Cat People, a feature film by Black Cat Film Productions, is inspired by film noir and 1940s B movies.
It centres around a group of scientists who discover the remains of a meteorite floating in the Pacific Ocean.
What follows is a terrifying journey which sees the protagonists trying to escape mutant creatures and stay alive.
Director, producer and writer Sarah Stephenson said the project was a tribute to classic horror films like Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula and Frankenstein.
"For all those who love old noir film plots and wish to relive the old days, it will send you on a long journey into the past and beyond the realms of your imagination," she said.
Playing starring roles are Jessica Ham, Peter O'Hanlon, Emma Critchell, John Gorman, Wayne Bassett, Zsolt Vincze and Brad Phillips.
Tracey Rose Sparke, a prop and wardrobe designer who has worked on projects including Steven Spielberg's The Pacific, has also lent her hand to the film.
Leading actress Ms Ham said the cast and crew had been outstanding to work with and she was keen for the world to get to know her character.
"I am so excited to be playing the role of the feisty yet poised heroine, Professor Diana Lawrence as she dodges yet inevitably falls for the dauntless charms of Captain John Baker," she said.
"I get to learn some screen combat (which was) a completely new challenge for me, as well as indulge in all the classic damsel antics of fainting, screaming, and swooning.
Co-star Mr O'Hanlon said the film was a unique throwback to Hollywood's golden era.
"Sarah has really shown her love for the old classics and her willingness to step outside the safety zones of the current film genres," she said.
"This one has it all - monsters, fights, adventure and maybe even some romance."
Attack of the Cat People comes off the back of Black Cat Film Productions' previous project Mia Morris' Diary, an adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula.
The film is set to be completed by the end of the year.
