Entries are open for artistic youth to showcase their talents in October at the 2019 Redland Yurara Youth Art awards.
The awards offer a major prize of $1000. The competition is open to Redland artists in years 7 to 12, and school leavers from 15 to 21 years.
YYAA convenor and president of Redland Yurara Art Society Gloria Dietz-Kiebron said the awards were to encourage artistic youth in the Redlands and to foster a sense of pride, achievement and recognition of their artistic gift among their peers, local artists and the public.
"Entrants do not have to be studying art at school or university to enter," she said.
On enrolment, entrants receive six months free mentorship with a professional Yurara tutor and free membership of Yurara Art Society for one year.
Publicity officer Karen Munster said the awards were a fantastic opportunity for young emerging artists to gain valuable instruction and guidance in their art practice.
"They also get to access to all the art amenities that our society has to offer. I only wish I had the same opportunities when I was ateenager," she said.
Entries close on September 6, giving adequate preparation time for two pieces. Categories include painting and drawing as well as sections covering digital art, sculpture, printmaking and photography.
