Australian Foundation For Disability (Afford) is a not-for-profit disability service provider that is trusted by over 4000 people each day to provide support so they can live the life they want.
For 66 years, Afford has supported people to achieve their goals under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for work, at home and in life.
The organisation has now expanded services into Queensland and recently merged with Redlands Respite Care in Wellington Point.
This is timely for Afford with the NDIS rolling out across the state.
The scheme offers a new approach to supporting people with disabilities and is designed to offer people more choice and control to reach their goals through necessary and reasonable supports.
Afford is committed to making a difference in the lives of Queenslanders living with disability.
The merge with Redlands Respite Care ensures that the 65 participants attending the site will continue to access the community, participate in activities they enjoy and sustain the friendships that they have already formed.
Overnight respite is also available to give families and carers a break when they need it.
Afford CEO Steven Herald says that the merge with Redlands Respite Care will give people in the community greater choice of disability supports.
"Many clients of Redland Respite Care entered as children and have grown up with the service into adulthood. We are so privileged to be joining the life journey of these individuals and we're honoured to able to provide them and the wider Redlands community with a range of supports so they can live the life they want," Mr Herald said.
"At Afford, we value every individual and genuinely care about how we can deliver supports to cater to their needs. We believe that everyone should receive the best support and have the opportunity to live life on their terms."
