MACLEAY Island police have appealed for drivers to stick to the speed limit after eight people were caught speeding in a 40km/h school zone this month.
A police spokeswoman said eight speeding tickets had been issued on the island this month, all in a school zone.
The spokeswoman said a total of 44 traffic infringement notices were issued. The others were for vehicles incorrectly park, driving unregistered and uninsured and failing to secure loads.
Flashing traffic speed signs had been installed in the school zone this month.
The spokeswoman reminded motorists that the speed limit on the island was 50km/h unless otherwise signed.
"We have recently obtained a new speed detection device and will be enforcing speed limits," the spokeswoman said.
On June 22, Macleay Island police charged a 31-year-old woman with public nuisance, obstructing police and wilful damage. She is to appear at Cleveland Magistrates Court on July 16.
A 46-year-old Macleay Island woman was charged on the same day with public nuisance and obstructing police. She is to appear at Cleveland Magistrates Court on July 23.
