A DOG breeder who did not get proper treatment for his wounded animals and chained them without water has been jailed for supplying them for fights.
About 20 dogs were taken from Jarrad Nathan Trenear by animal welfare officials in April last year as part of the RSCPA's crackdown on Queensland's underground network of dog fighters.
Trenear and another man, Joshua Baskerville, have been convicted and two more cases are before the court.
Officials found flea-ridden dogs and pups without bedding or clean water at Trenear's Mount Cotton property, along with needles, syringes, medication and equipment used to make them stronger.
They were used and bred for fighting, kept in appalling conditions, and some were covered in scars consistent with fights.
Some of the animals were rehabilitated and rehomed, but others were so aggressive they were put down.
Trenear, 35, has been ordered to pay the RSCPA's costs and fines stemming from two of the charges he pleaded guilty to.
He was sentenced to six months jail but will be released on parole on July 31.
