YOUNG Veterans Redlands - along with the mother of a man who died in Afghanistan - will hold a memorial event to remember servicemen and women killed in action.
The memorial dinner and dance, set to be held on August 17, will honour 42 people who have died in Afghanistan, as well as others killed in military campaigns since the Vietnam War.
Young Veterans Redlands vice president Lee Mason said the event was co-organised by Susan Chuck whose son Benjamin, 27, was killed in a helicopter crash in 2010, along with two other members of his regiment.
Private Chuck, who was on his third tour to Afghanistan, was the patrol medic with his sniper team.
"It's good for us to get together and remember those who have fallen before and alongside us in more recent conflicts," Mr Mason said.
"It also helps veterans to reconnect with others."
Young Veterans Redlands - which celebrated the first anniversary of its launch on the weekend - brings veterans together, providing support and mateship.
It holds regular social evenings for members, the next of which is at Redlands RSL on July 12.
The organisation will also hold a fundraising sausage sizzle at Capalaba Bunnings on July 20 and a car wash at the Redlands RSL car park from 8.30am on July 21.
Money raised will be put towards the group's two major projects.
Its flagship initiative, Project Perana, sees members restoring a 1971 MK1 Capri with the aim of entering it into drag racing events. It is open to all veterans regardless of age or operational service.
Young Veterans Redlands is also aiming to open a drop-in centre where members can come to relax, chat and access welfare and employment services.
"It'd just be our own community space where veterans can bring their families," Mr Mason said.
"The drop-in centre will provide a safe place for young veterans to hang out, socialise with other veterans, use a computer to look for work, do work or make any claims, listen to music, watch TV or reconnect with other young veterans and their families."
Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite or at the Redlands RSL reception desk.
