Seventeen students from Calvary Christian College at Carbrook will move into the Ekka grounds from August 13 to 18 as part of the school's agricultural program.
The students will show 23 Suffolk sheep and rams, four alpacas, six Highlline brown chickens and six angora goats and participate in the young judges competition.
Program coordinator Angela Haupt of Sheldon said the program taught the students resilience and how to interact well with the public.
"It's a great opportunity for the students. It teaches them how to care for animals, but also for themselves," she said.
"I've watched the students lose their anxieties. I've seen one student change from being very timid to rocking the microphone and talking beautifully with no fear. That's what makes my job gratifying," she said.
Ms Haupt will be joined at the Ekka by her three children Hannah 16, Emma 13 and William 11 and occasional visits by husband Robert.
"It's a family affair. William will be with us even though he is not old enough yet to be part of the show team," Ms Haupt said.
