ARIA award-winning guitar superstar, Karin Schaupp will perform in Sounds from the Deep with Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the Redland Performing Arts at 7pm on Thursday, October 3.
Conducted by Guy Noble and featuring a moving and powerful program including Smetana's The Moldau from Ma Vlasta which traces the course of the mighty Vltava river as it grows from a small trickle to become a majestic waterway and Handel's Water Music, (first performed in 1717 for King George I on a barge on the Thames) through to Westlake's contemporary ode to nature's power Antarctica Suite and Strauss Jnr's iconic waltz On the Beautiful Blue Danube, Sounds from the Deep will transport concert-goers into the turbulent and ever-changing world of water.
"I am so looking forward to playing Westlake's gorgeous Antarctica Suite with the wonderful Queensland Symphony Orchestra. This is a highly evocative and dramatic piece and we are playing two of my favourite movements from it," Ms Schaupp said.
"We are also playing the beautiful Cavatina from The Deer Hunter. The Cavatina is probably one of the most loved lyrical guitar melodies of all time and there is something very special about playing it with a symphony orchestra, as the original version was just solo guitar."
Noble said he was looking forward to working to Schaupp again.
"It's amazing to work with Karin, as we haven't seen each other for about 10 years ago! We are like ships passing in the night, which seems appropriate for a concert with a water theme," he said.
Queensland Symphony Orchestra's Sounds from the Deep will also be performed in QPAC Concert Hall at 11.30am on Sunday, August 4 as part of the Music on Sundays series.
Tickets to the RPAC performance are $45/$40/$35 and can be booked on 3829 8131.
