THORNESIDE father Nicolas Bonastre will launch a Redlands dads group on Sunday.
The 31-year-old father of two girls said the group would support new and expectant fathers who felt cut off from friends.
Mr Bonastre started a Wynnum Manly dads group last year shortly after the birth of his second daughter.
The Redlands group would become a part of a national program called Dads Group Inc, which has created over 100 support groups across Australia for young and expectant dads.
Mr Bonastre joined the group to help with his own struggles and is now Queensland state leader.
"When I became a dad I realised there wasn't much support," Mr Bonastre said.
"There were all these options for mothers groups but nothing at all there for dads.
"A man feels isolated when he has kids because quite often friends tend to drop off the radar.
"That's something that I experienced and I thought, how can I make a difference here, how can I get dads that are in the same position together?.
"I came across Dads Group Inc and got in contact with the founders Tom and Kate Docking and said 'this is awesome, how do I get involved?'
"After that I started my own dads group in Wynnum West."
Mr Bonastre said dads could bring their partners along to the first meeting.
"I find the family events are really important in making new and expecting dads feel more comfortable when they are freaking out about taking the baby by themselves," he said.
"It's a really safe environment with the mothers there as well.
"They all get to meet and greet and then when they come alone they feel a lot more comfortable.
"We are never exclusively for dads. We are happy to make it work.
"It's a crazy chapter becoming a new dad so we're just happy for them to come along, check it out and get the support."
The group will meet at 9.30am on Sunday for a coffee at Blue Tongue Cafe on Mooroondu Road, Thorneside before venturing across to Beth Boyd Park.
Mr Bonastre said the group would meet every week at the same location.
You can register your interest on the group's Facebook page.
