A SPECIALIST extra-curricular table tennis program at Alexandra Hill's Hilliard State School has produced silver medallists at the State Table Tennis Championships.
Year six students Allison Jaillet and Angelle Matthews placed second in a primary girls division doubles event in June, while two other Hilliard students - Alyssa Wrightson and Isobel Pryke - placed sixth overall.
Hilliard State School principal Andrew Walker, who doubles as the school's representative table tennis coach, said the team trained hard at lunchtimes and on Friday afternoons to prepare for the state championships.
"I feel extremely proud of the accomplishments of these students," he said.
"Their perseverance has allowed them to achieve excellent results."
Mr Walker said the boy's squad helped the girls prepare for the event despite failing to qualify for the state championships this year.
He said the girls excelled at keeping the ball in play and showed great teamwork on their way to winning silver.
The school received a sporting schools grant in 2018 which was used to purchase equipment for the table tennis program.
Hilliard run a lunchtime table tennis club and an after school program for accomplished players on Fridays.
Their representation at the state championships spiked this year and the school said they had designs on repeating the dose in 2020.
