MARNUS Labuschagne has given his Ashes selection hopes a boost with a starring performance in a Cricket Australia warm-up game overnight.
The Redlands Tigers batsman top scored with 41 in bowler-friendly conditions as his team limped to 105 all out on the opening day.
Labuschagne came to to the crease in the third over following the dismissal of David Warner for 4.
Wickets continued to fall around him, including those of fellow Ashes hopefuls Kurtis Patterson and Will Pucovski, before he was dismissed by James Pattinson with the score on 70.
Labuschagne is currently top run-scorer in division two of the County Championship, having piled on 1114 runs at an average of 65 in 18 innings for Glamorgan, who sit second on the table.
Earlier this month he became the first player to reach 1000 runs in the 2019 County Championship season and the quickest Glamorgan player to reach the milestone in more than 20 years.
Labuschagne, along with Redlands teammates Sam Heazlett and James Peirson, have received Queensland Bulls contracts for the 2019/20 season, putting them in the reckoning for selection in Australia's Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup competitions.
Labuschagne last played for Australia in a test series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
