WALKER Corporation will hold a jobs forum to talk about opportunities for local tradies, suppliers and subcontractors during the proposed $1.4 billion Toondah Harbour redevelopment.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said Walker Corporation had agreed to host the project briefing and forum after Mr Brown called on the developer to prioritise local jobs.
The forum will be at the Alexandra Hills TAFE on Wednesday, August 28, starting at 6.30am with a free breakfast.
Mr Brown said that he had asked Walker to ensure that contractors' works packages were broken down as much as possible to ensure locals could bid and win work.
"If the project gets its environmental approval then major works will start within a few years," he said.
"It's important for locals to understand how to take advantage of the job opportunities that will follow."
Mr Brown said that Walker Corporation representatives would provide an overview of the project and outline timeframes and the scope of works packages that would be available over the 15 to 20 year development.
Mr Brown said that he wanted Walker and the Alexandra Hills TAFE to build a close relationship.
"Toondah Harbour will be the biggest civil and construction project for a generation in the Redlands and we need to start matching and training young people in the local area to the opportunities ahead," Mr Brown said.
Mr Brown had also called on Walker Corporation to commit to employing local apprentices and trainees.
