MORE than 750 acrobatic, aerobic, trampoline and rhythmic gymnasts have their sights set on the Gymnastics Queensland State Championships later this month.
During the three-day competition on the Gold Coast, 41 clubs from across Queensland and as far as New South Wales will compete, with athletes displaying their best efforts in four different disciplines.
Four Redlands clubs will showcase their athletes at the competition, and for some athletes it comes off the back of their performance at the national championships in Melbourne in June.
Cleveland's Redland City Gymsports will send 16 athletes to vie for top spots in trampolining including nationals athletes Rylee Watson and Kate and Charlotte Johnstone.
Taking part in aerobics and rhythmic gymnastics competitions will be athletes from Wynnum club Premier Gymnastics and Birkdale's River City Gymnastics, while Alexandra Hills' Hi-NRG Sports Aerobics and Fitness gymnasts will showcase their aerobics skills.
Head of Gymnastics Queensland Kym Dowdell said the athletes had been putting their bodies through the paces and training extremely hard in the lead-up to the event.
"The format was revised in 2017 to bring together the different disciplines and it has been incredibly exciting to watch," said Ms Dowdell.
"The atmosphere is thrilling and you can really see the passion in the gymnasts who thrive under these conditions.
"It is an entertaining program for spectators to see hundreds of athletes - with the eldest in their 60s - put on their best performance with strength, flexibility, creativity and passion at the forefront of what they do."
The event will display individual talent as well as pairs, trios, quads and groups in a variety of routines, including trampoline jumps and apparatus.
"There will be plenty of complex moves and precision in the three-day event, with the athletes spending hours each week perfecting their routines in the hope of claiming a podium finish," said Ms Dowdell.
The states will also coincide with the Aeroschools Championship as well as the RGSkools event which will be held at the same venue.
Gymnastics Queensland State Championships for acrobatic, aerobic, trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics will be held at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre in Carrara from Friday, August 16 to Sunday, August 18.
