A Shuto Kuboyama second half brace helped Redlands United secure victory in the National Premier League competition last Friday at the Cleveland Showgrounds, defeating Gold Coast United 3-0.
The first half was a tight battle with good goal scoring opportunities few and far between, with teams going into the break locked at nil-all.
After the break, Kuboyama scored the Red Devils' first goal in the 64th minute, when Mikhail Hastings' long throw found Kuboyama on the edge of the 18-yard box.
He beat two defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal and opening up the game.
Almost a minute later, Kuboyama almost had his second when Kado Aoci put him through a gap in the Gold Coast defence only for the keeper to make a diving save and pull the ball away from Kuboyama's feet
Gold Coast continued to press forward but Redlands goalkeeper Jack Richards marshalled his defence well and held firm.
Gold Coast pressing forward created more opportunities for the Red Devils with Kuboyama and Godfrey Debele causing havoc among the Gold Coast defence.
In the 87th minute Kuboyama scored his second when Josh Anderson's long crossfield ball from deep in his own half, found Kuboyama who outpaced the Gold Coast defence and slotted the goal to make the score Redlands United 2 Gold Coast United 0.
In the 89th minute Aoci got onto the end of a long clearance and muscled his way through the defence only to have his driving shot well saved by the Gold Coast keeper.
In the second minute of extra time Connor McAuley replaced the tiring Aoci for Redlands United.
Within a minute of coming on, McAuley was played in behind the Gold Coast defence by Kuboyama and easily rounded the keeper to slot home the Red Devils' third goal.
Final score, Redlands United 3 Gold Coast United 0, giving the Red Devil's their sixth NPL win in a row.
Next Saturday Redlands United is away at Albany Creek against Moreton Bay United in Round 28.
