TWO Redlands Queensland Corrective Services Officers have been nominated for a QBANK Everyday Heroes Award, recognised for their actions in helping to save a Macleay Island woman's life.
Ryan Robinson and Kirsten Robinson - who work at the Redlands Community Corrections Centre in Capalaba - found a client in a serious condition while conducting a routine home visit on the island.
"She was out of breath, swaying and at the point of losing consciousness," Mr Robinson said.
"Macleay Island does not have a hospital, so when the paramedics arrived at the scene, they were transported by the ambulance barge over to the main land to rush her to hospital."
Once the client was in the hands of paramedics, the pair contacted the RSPCA to ensure the woman's pets would be taken care of
"She was really concerned that her animals weren't going to be looked after, so we assured her the animals would be safe and well cared for - it was the least we could do," Mr Robinson said.
"On arrival to the hospital she went into resuscitation," Ms Robinson said.
"Luckily the doctors revived her and she survived."
Due to their fast actions and care, the pair were nominated for the QBANK Everyday Heroes Dedication Award.
"We were just doing our job and cared for her like I believe any person would," Mr Robinson said.
The QBANK awards, now in their sixth year, recognise the work of frontline and public service workers.
QBANK chief executive Mike Currie said the event paid tribute to the hardworking nominees who put their life on the line to make a difference to the community.
"Each year the QBANK Everyday Heroes Awards grow bigger, capturing the attention of more people who want to nominate extraordinary people in our community," he said.
"Every nominee displays the makings of an everyday hero, from ambulance officers providing exceptional patient care to long-standing volunteers working tirelessly to extinguish house fires, it's incredibly humbling to hear these stories and be a part of something so special."
The six award categories include achievement, ownership, dedication, working together, excellence and the young everyday hero award.
QBANK Everyday Heroes Award nominations close on Sunday, August 25.
