Cleveland local Kobi Morley, 10, was waiting for the train with his father Brent Morley one morning when he noticed some ladies raising funds ahead of the family fun walk, Brisbane Walk for Women's Cancers.
A few weeks later, Kobi is the fifth highest fundraiser for the Cancer Council Queensland event, having raised almost $800.
Mr Morley said his son was inspired to help when he noticed the fundraisers.
"Kobi got upset and sad that people were just walking past them and not taking any notice of them, so he asked me if he could do it to raise a little money," he said.
Ever since, Kobi has been raising funds at his rugby club The Redlands Muddies.
"My wife Emma and I are very proud of Kobi to take this upon himself to ask me to set up a page for him," Mr Morley said.
Mr Morley encouraged the community to follow in Kobi's footsteps and get involved in the fundraising event.
"I would encourage other families to join as every little bit helps," he said.
Brisbane Walk for Women's Cancers is set to be held at Bayside Park, Manly, on Saturday, September 14 and will see locals, dressed in pink, take part in either a 3km or 6km walk for the councils work in women's cancers.
Registration opens at 8am for a 9am start.
Council chief executive Chris McMillian thanked Kobi and all those who have signed up to take part in the inaugural event.
"One in six Queensland women are diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancers in their lifetime.
"These women are our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends.
"Getting involved in Brisbane Walk for Women's Cancers may seem like a small way to make a difference, but your contribution makes a lasting impact to women touched with cancer."
Registration before the day is $25 for the 3km or $30 for the 6km event for adults and ends a week before the event.
On-the-day adult registration is $35. Children under five walk free and those six to 17 can pre-register for $5 or register on the day for $10.
