Mates Theatre Genesis presents the comedy Writer's Block at the Birkdale School of Arts, from October 18 to November 2.
The play focusses on that brick wall that is every writer's nemesis. Jane however has discovered a way to make hitting her wall a little less tedious. Battling with vocal and immensely frustrating hallucinations in the form of her two main characters, Jane sets about to write a play with all the romance and drama she lacks in her own life.
Written by Australian author, Kellie Silver, Writer's Block is set against a 1940's and a modern backdrop as the play alternates between reality and a bit of fantasy. This is a comical romance with a hint of drama that voices some of the unique processes as Jane arduously pieces together the scattered thoughts of her over-active imagination. She hopes to ultimately produce that perfect work of art.
Director Shane Webb said he felt privileged to work with such a rich and vibrant script from a local playwright, but also with a cast that could bring it to life.
The play stars Libby Harrison as Jane, Vivien Wood as Adele, Zach Price as Jake, Tereska Hart as Kate and Andrew McArthur as Paul/Captain Brooks. This is Harrison's third play with Mates and 34th role. She recently played Barbara in Mates' My Husband's Nuts.
Tickets range from $10 to $25 and are available at matestg.org.au or 0416 836 196. This play contains some adult themes and parental guidance is recommended.
