COOCHIEMUDLO Island's creative locals have invited visitors to a celebration of the island's natural beauty and its unique community of artists, cooks, thinkers and doers on Sunday, September 22.
The market day will be spread across the island with heritage and nature walks to guide visitors around picturesque beaches, parks and streets and to the studios and gardens of creative locals.
There will be music and food on Main Beach, bush tucker, native nursery plants to take home and a rare display of the island's historic herbarium.
Grab a map on arrival and head east for a peaceful stroll through the wetlands or west to the muddy magic of the pristine mangrove forest.
The day kicks off at 8am with a heritage walk from the island jetty and runs until 2pm.
All ages are catered for with activities like a treasure hunt, real-time photo competition for smartphones, bush and coastal regeneration displays, a mindfulness workshop and a local fishing guru who knows where the fish are, when they are biting and how to land them.
The market precinct features locally grown and created delights from the kitchens of home cooks. Grab a Thai curry, vegetarian specialties, a Persian syrup love cake, preserves and other baked goods.
Residents will talk about sustainable living - critical on a small island that is the most densely populated in the bay - and issues like climate change and conservation at verandah discussions during the morning.
