A 20-YEAR-OLD Birkdale man and a 29-year-old Alexandra Hills man have been charged in connection with crime at Weinam Creek marina.
The men and three teenagers have been caught by police following recent vandalism, break-ins and theft from the car parks at Redland Bay.
The Birkdale man has been charged with numerous offences including burglary, receiving tainted property, possessing dangerous drugs and five counts of unlawful possession of motor vehicles.
The Alexandra Hills man faces charges including burglary, drug possession, four counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, four counts of receiving tainted property and five counts of unlawful possession of motor vehicles, aircraft or vessels.
The three boys - aged 13 and two aged 14 - faced charges relating to stealing and wilful damage.
Redland Bay police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Steve Graham said that police had been working hard to prevent crime in the car parks.
"Patrols have been increased by utilising extra staff from the Bayside patrol group and will continue over the coming months," Senior Sergeant Graham said.
"QPS are committed to working with other government agencies, private companies and community members to reduce criminal behaviour in the area."
Redland City mayor Karen Williams said recently that council officers had arranged for the ferry terminals to be patrolled four times a night seven days a week until security cameras in the car parks were installed and operational.
"I also want to thank local police for responding to my request for increased surveillance at Weinam Creek and for their great work in apprehending minors responsible for recent vandalism," Cr Williams said.
The youths and adults arrested by Redland Bay criminal investigation branch and Capalaba tactical crime squad officers were alleged to be responsible for numerous recent vehicle offences like wilful damage, break-ins and vehicle and property theft.
"Whilst it is a good result that a large number of recent offences have been solved, the main aim is to deter and disrupt criminal activity so that vehicle owners feel safer about parking at Weinam Creek," Senior Sergeant Graham said.
He also encouraged residents to help police by reporting suspicious behaviour and try to properly secure vehicles.
Suspicious behaviour can be reported via Policelink on 131 444, the Policelink phone app or to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
