AN underutilised patio area overlooking the Raby Bay Marina at STAR Community Services' Cleveland office has been upgraded.
The patio has been decked out with outdoor furniture using a Redlands Foundation grant and will be used by the elderly and people with disabilities.
STAR general manager Patsy Wilshire said the upgraded space would reduce the growing problem of social isolation among vulnerable members of the Redlands community.
"Our weekly STAR senior fitness group is now able to sit outside, enjoy fresh air and have a chat with their peers over morning tea," she said.
"We are also using the area to host our free monthly information sessions for the aged and those with disabilities."
Redland Foundation community grants coordinator Lauren Andreatta said the organisation were pleased to be able to support the project.
"We look forward to seeing the area continue to be a community social hub making a significant impact on our community's most vulnerable," she said.
The patio was opened in the company of Cleveland State School performance choir at a morning tea on Monday, September 16.
