BAYSIDE Initiatives Group will celebrate its merger with mental health service provider Brook Red at a Mental Health Week event on Thursday.
BIG Red co-ordinator Samuel Walker said the Capalaba organisation would become the fourth Brook Red centre, ensuring its sustainability.
The council gave the mental health organisation a lifelife in May when it had to vacate its former premises because it was set to lose substantial funding. Councillors decided to lease a building at Winter Memorial Park at Capalaba.
Mr Walker said the organisation had been operating in the Redlands for about 20 years with little funding.
Brook Red general manager Eschleigh Balzamo said that BIG may have been the first lived experience organisation in the country.
"To keep BIG going for so many years has been such a big community effort," she said. "They wouldn't have made it otherwise."
On Thursday BIG Red will host Thrive by the Bay as part of Queensland Mental Health Week from 10am to 2pm at their premises.
About 12 stallholders will be at the event to celebrate Mental Health Week and create awareness about issues facing the mental health community.
There will be a free sausage sizzle, live music, a drumming circle, art and other activities.
Mr Walker said the event would also be an opportunity to thank the community members who had helped the organisation move from their former premises.
"We couldn't have done it without the support of the Redlands community," he said.
The event comes as BIG, together with Macleay Island's Curlew Cove Children and Family Place, have been named as finalists in the Queensland Mental Health Week Achievement Awards to be announced on Friday.
Thursday's event is in Winter Memorial Park, 53 Mount Cotton Road, Capalaba.
