Companionship and equality begins in the shed
Good health is based on many factors and becoming a member of a Men's Shed gives a person that safe environment where many of these things can be found in an atmosphere of old fashioned mateship and social inclusion.
And, importantly, there is no pressure.
From a collection of independent community-based sheds to an organisation recognised as one of Australia's largest male-based community developments, the Men's Sheds movement has come a long way in a short time.
Gary Webb is a member of the Redland Bay Men's Shed which began seven years ago and recently completed a purpose built shed officially opened in November last year.
"Members are able to work on group or individual projects at their own pace and in the company of others," Gary said.
"Some of our members enjoy working with timber while others like working with metal and we now have facilities and equipment to satisfy practically everyone."
