SHOWERS and storms predicted for the next day or so have already made an appearance in Beaudesert with a lunch time downpour leaving residents hopeful of more to come.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicted up to 10 millimetres for Beaudesert, eight millimetres for Jimboomba and six millimetres for Redlands today.
Meanwhile BOM has issued a severe weather warning for people in parts of Redland City and Brisbane City Council areas.
At 1pm, a severe thunderstorm was detected on the weather radar near Sunnybank Hills, moving towards the northeast.
It was forecast to affect Slacks Creek and Camp Hill by 1.35 pm and Tingalpa Reservoir and Manly by 2.05 pm.
The BOM alert said damaging winds and large hailstones were likely, as were significant accumulations of small hail.
BOM meteorologist Jess Gardner said the rain at Beaudesert was in response to an upper trough moving across southern Queensland combined with a lot of moisture over the eastern side of the state.
"Showers throughout the afternoon should peak overnight and clear by Saturday afternoon," she said.
"It will be pretty much the same story for Logan and the Redlands, with five to 10 millimetres predicted across the region and isolated totals of 15 to 30 millimetres."
Ms Gardner said it was hoped the rain would be enough to be useful to firefighters battling bushfires in the region.
QFES said crews were fighting fires at Carneys Creek between Croftby Road, Carneys Creek Road and Dwyer Ridges Road and near Wilsons Road, Moogerah.
