A CONFIRMED case of measles has been reported at Greenbank State School this week.
This comes as Queensland Health revealed a total of 15 Measles cases on Brisbane's southside this month.
Greenbank State School's exposure to the disease occurred between 2.30pm and 5pm on October 17 and October 18 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm, according to a Metro South Measles Exposure List released on October 21.
Someone unknowingly infected with measles was also reported to have visited the Greenbank Puma petrol station on October 18 from 2pm to 3pm, Jimboomba Little Athletics at Henderson Road on October 18 from 5.30pm to 10pm and Woolworths Greenbank at Pub Lane on October 18 from 5pm to 6pm.
Exposure was also reported at Spring Mountain Reserve on October 19 from 6am to 9am for a Greenbank Park Run event.
Further cases have been reported at Logan Hospital on October 10 (4pm-9pm), October 11 (8.30am to 10am), October 12 (2pm to 5.30pm and 7.30pm to 11.30pm), October 16 (2.30am to 5.30am) and October 20 (6pm to 7pm).
On October 8, a case was also reported at North Street, Logan Village from 2.30pm to 3.30pm at My Health Medical Centre.
Mealses is a highly infectious and potentially fatal disease with complications including pneumonia and encephalitis.
Metro South Health public health physician Dr Kari Jarvinen said it was important for people suspected to have Measles to call their medical practice so precautions could be taken to avoid spreading the disease.
"Measles is spread by tiny droplets through coughing and sneezing. Early symptoms include fever, runny nose, tiredness and sore, red eyes. This is followed by a blotchy red rash, which often starts on the face before becoming widespread," Dr Jarvinen said.
"Symptoms usually start around 7 to 10 days after contact with a person with measles but sometimes longer, so anyone who develops measles-like symptoms within the next fortnight should contact their GP for advice.
"If people are adequately vaccinated with two recorded doses of Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine, they are very unlikely to get the disease. Those who are unsure or have concerns about their immunity to measles should contact their doctor to check whether they have had two doses of the vaccine."
Queensland Health offers free vaccines to anyone born during or since 1966, who has not had two documented doses of MMR vaccine or had proven measles
