Sue Goodrick is offering a free workshop on Saturday, November 9, with participants creating their own tissue paper and bamboo lantern.
With simple techniques and accessible materials, you will learn how to construct a magical lantern and paint it with your own design. This is part of a proposed initiative to celebrate next year's first winter solstice with a lantern parade.
Our Russell Island Community Arts (RICArts) lantern (pictured), represents the southern Moreton Bay Islands where we are privileged to live and includes an abundance of wildlife both on our islands and in the surrounding sea.
Although we are only a half-hour ferry ride from mainland Australia, the Farm, Art House and Gallery is nestled within the peaceful surroundings of an old avocado orchard, providing a great source of inspiration for a range of artistic talents such as pottery, art, craft, patchwork, weaving, sculpture and mosaic.
RICArts, a community-based organisation, is currently offering patchwork and sewing on Monday mornings.
Sylvia Gillard conducts professionally-guided pottery workshops on Mondays and Fridays and there is painting on Tuesdays, craft on Wednesdays and mosaics on Thursdays. All sessions are only $5 to attend.
Entry via Robert St, Russell Island, groups meet Monday to Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm.
