REDLANDERS are joining in the Melbourne Cup festivities at clubs and restaurants across the city.
Gusty winds blew but skies were clear as residents and punters gathered to watch the race with friends, family and colleagues.
Stylist Donny Galella said animal prints were all the rage this season, with race-goers encouraged to reflect their personalities in their outfits.
"Bold types can go for a modern style with bright colours," he said.
"If you're conservative, pare back for a classic look with neutral tones."
Meanwhile in Melbourne, crowds scored sunny skies and mild temperatures for race day.
Supporters of the Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses were gathered outside Flemington this morning to protest the race.
Many Redlanders also said they would sit out the cup fearing animal cruelty, with the hashtag #NuptotheCup being spread on social media.
Others turned out to watch the race at venues across the city.
Vow and Declare took out the coveted top spot, while Redlands-owned Surprise Baby finished in fifth place.
