REDLAND Bay couple John and Theona Trenerry say doing everything together in their younger years has contributed to their long lasting relationship.
The pair have been happily married for almost 50 years and are still as deeply in love as the day they met.
"I used to work for Theona's father in Dalby," Mr Trenerry said.
"I was only 16 at the time and I was an apprentice baker/pastry cook.
"I remained a family friend with her father after I left (the job) and that was when we met."
The couple moved to Hawthorne in Brisbane's east and married on November 15, 1969 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wynnum. Mr Trenerry was 27 and Mrs Trenerry 20.
They welcomed sons Andrew (46) and Matthew (45) into the world a few years later.
Mr Trenerry spent his working days as a newspaper delivery driver at The Courier Mail and transported reporters and company bosses to football matches.
He spent 20 years there while Mrs Trenerry worked in the fashion industry.
They moved to Redland Bay 10 years ago after spending 28 years at their Hawthorne home behind the suburb's long-standing theatre.
"We used to come down here (to the Redlands) in the early sixties because I used to play golf at Redland Bay," Mr Trenerry said.
"We were coming and going a fair bit so we thought (moving) sounded like a good idea."
The pair will celebrate their 50th anniversary with family and friends at The Lighthouse Restaurant, Cleveland on the weekend.
