REDLANDS Tigers batsman Marnus Labuschagne has been rewarded for an outstanding Ashes series with selection in the Australian squad for a two-match test series against Pakistan.
He is likely to start the first test at the Gabba in a week's time alongside experienced campaigners Steve Smith and David Warner but the rest of the top order is still largely unsettled.
Labuschagne made a 28-ball duck in the first innings of Queensland's Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria but made amends in the second innings to score 35.
He is currently Queensland's top run-scorer in the Shield having amassed 225 runs from six innings at an average of 45.
He is also the top run scorer in the one-day cup where he has scored 360 runs at 60 to help Queensland secure top spot on the ladder with just one match to go before the finals.
Redlands Tigers welcomed Labuschagne back for their clash with Toombul on the weekend and while his leg-spin went for 90 without claiming a wicket he showed he had not lost his batting form, scoring 22 off 25 deliveries.
Welsh county cricket side Glamorgan will also welcome back the 25-year-old next season after he inked a two-year contract extension on Wednesday.
Labuschagne had a prolific County Championship season before being selected for the Ashes, scoring 1114 runs in 18 innings at an average of 65 in the County Championship.
He made waves on the English circuit after becoming the first player to 1000 division two runs and the quickest Glamorgan player to reach the milestone in 20 years.
It was arguably his county form that earned him a spot in Justin Langer's Ashes squad, where he went on to make history by becoming the world's first concussion substitute in the second test at Lord's.
The first test of the 2019/20 Australian summer against Pakistan starts at the Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday, November 21.
Australia play Pakistan in two tests before welcoming New Zealand for three test matches at Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
