FIREFIGHTERS battling Scenic Rim blazes across more than five fire fronts have been given a brief reprieve as weather conditions have been kinder than expected.
A spokeswoman for Queensland Fire and emergency Services said while the alert levels for all the fires had been downgraded, there was not time for complacency and the region was still in a state of fire emergency.
"Conditions may ease in some areas today but the fire danger remains very high for significant parts of the state," she said.
BOM meteorologist Jess Gardner said weather conditions across the Scenic Rim were likely to produce challenges for firefighters over the weekend, particularly on Sunday.
"There is a chance of thunderstorms today, tomorrow and Sunday, but for the Scenic Rim fire grounds most likely on Sunday," she said.
'We are not seeing any helpful amount of rain and there is the possibility of lightning, which could spark additional fires.
"We keep seeing these bursts of hot, dry westerly winds which could pick up again mid-next week and we are not seeing any lull for the region for some time."
