First Grade, playing on Peter Burge Oval, batted first, and after a couple of missed opportunities by the Gold Coast, Sam Heazlett (53) and Liam Smith (41) set a good platform and were 1/79 when the first wicket fell.
From there, the team just couldn't build any depth into its partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals to be eventually bowled out for 224.
In response, James Bazley was able to snare the big wicket of Max Bryant 23 and the Gold Coast finished the day at 1/41. Early wickets next week are the key to snaring another win for the Redlands Tigers' lads.
Second Grade
Second Grade, playing on Bill Pippen Oval and bowling first, had the Gold Coast in all sorts of bother at 5/74 but the middle order and tail dug in to eventually post 255.
The pick of the bowlers was Craig Weier 3/47 (19), Bailey Stewart 3/62 (21.2) and Matt Short 2/52 (17). In response, Redlands needed to bat two overs but unfortunately lost opener Michael McEwan for 0 to finish 1/0 at day's end. Partnerships the key next week as they look to bring home the win.
Third Grade
Third Grade, playing on Fred Kratzmann Oval, saw Redlands bat first and were in trouble early at 5/64. Dylan Grey (78) and Christian Robertson (53) put on a 90-run partnership to steady the ship and another 45-run partnership between Robertson and Josh Thompson (24) got the team to 200 but were eventually bowled out and finished the day on 211.
The Redlands' bowling group will be looking to take early poles as they eye off another win.
Fourth Grade
Fourth Grade playing on Cheltenham Oval had a bowl first. And the Redlands' seamers had an immediate impact, with all four bowlers picking up wickets.
Matt Fay 2/15 (10), Jacob Apted 2/17 (7), Jordan Crick 2/21 (12), Alex Ward 2/29 (9) and Wayne Todman 1/9 (2) had the Gold Coast all out in the 40th over for 97.
In response, Redlands pushed hard to chase the win on day one and not allowing weather to play a part next week. Redlands eventually finishing on 5/99 to get first innings points. Jordan Crick 22* and Harry Short 18 and Matt Fay 17. The boys can push hard for more runs and an outright victory next week.
Fifth Grade
Fifth Grade played on Ron Field Oval.
The University of Queensland went into bat on a very good wicket. The bowling group bowled tight lines and had Uni under pressure all day - especially thanks to Connor Ahpene 5/62 and Justin Kersey 2/20. Redlands restricted Uni to 209 and in response, the boys batted patiently to see out the day to be 0/36. The batsmen looking forward to getting their turn on this wicket and to chase down the runs for an important win coming into the Christmas break.
Sixth Grade
Sixth Grade (1s) playing on 7th Brigade Park against Valleys (1s). Valleys batted first and amassed 9 dec /329 on a very dry and very fast outfield. The pick of the bowlers for Redlands was Jay Kildey 3/80, Will Aspeling 2/32 and Ben Stuart 2/37. The Redlands' batsmen looking forward to getting their chance to bat on a very scoring friendly oval.
Sixth Grade (2s) played on University No. 9 against Uni. University batted all day as Redlands slowly chipped away with wickets. University eventually declaring 9/260 so they could have a crack at the openers late in the day. The pick of the bowlers Ryan Short 2/24 and Sean Lloyd 2/62. Redlands saw out the two overs and finished 0/1, leaving them 80 overs next week to chase down the runs and get the win.
Lord's Taverners
Lord's Taverners played on Fred Kratzmann Oval on Sunday against Valleys in the semi-final. Valleys batted first and posted 9/199 from its 50 overs. Wickets were shared across the bowling group with Ali Nasar snaring 2/7 from one over to open up the game, Jacob Dunne 2/25 (10), Carter Pearson 2/32 (10) and James Pullar 2/37 (10). In response, Redlands had a solid start with opener Luke Davies 53 (74) and was well placed but two run outs in short succession changed the momentum of the game. Redlands captain Rueben Burger 57* (69) and Carter Pearson 36 (67) showed a lot of composure to take charge of the run chase and saw it home, finishing 4/203 in the 45th over. The young men going through to the grand final next Sunday at Alan Border Oval.
Women's First Grade
Women's First Grade played on Peter Burge Oval on Sunday against Sandgate Redcliffe. The Baysiders won the toss and sent the Gators in and they posted 9/188 from their 50 overs. Our bowling group all picking up a wicket with Ella Anderson 2/25, Caroline de Lange 2/39, Jess Sanders, Delyse Laycock, Clodagh Ryall and Jess Pang all picking up one wicket each. In response, the Baysiders made a solid start but just as they would start to build momentum a wicket would fall and before they knew it, they were in trouble at 5/83. Partnerships from the middle order saw the ladies put themselves in with a chance to win but a direct hit run out and some tight bowling late saw the Baysiders fall 11 agonising runs short to be bowled out for 177 in the 48th over, with 10 balls to spare.
Women's Second Grade
Women's Second Grade, playing on Ron Field Oval on Sunday, bowled first. Gold Coast posting 6/278. The pick of the bowlers for Redlands was Makayla Montgomery, with 3/46.
In chasing nearly six runs an over, Redlands got off to a good start but once the second wicket fell it started a succession of wickets. Redlands eventually dismissed for 87. Makayla Montgomery having a great day as she also top-scored with the bat with 36.
